Motability car keeps Coronation Street star on the road

A disabled actress from ITV’s Coronation Street has praised disability charity Motability for the difference it makes to the lives of disabled people across the UK.

Cherylee Houston who plays Izzy Armstrong in the popular TV soap is featured in the August issue of Motability’s Lifestyle magazine. The 35-year-old talked to the magazine about how Motability has helped to keep her mobile.

“I was doing a show with another disabled actor,” she recalls. “In those days I was driving an old Mini and could just about lift my wheelchair into the back seat. My colleague told me about Motability and so I investigated. It has made life so much easier. I love having my Motability vehicle.

“I have a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle – a WAV. It’s a Renault Kangoo and it’s my second vehicle with Motability. It was adapted for me by Aspect Conversions in Southport - they were really good and talked me through everything about the adaptation process. I definitely needed a WAV when I changed my wheelchair a few years ago. Beforehand I had to grab whoever I could in the street to help me load my wheelchair in and out but now the back of the vehicle can open by remote control and it’s easy to just wheel myself in.”

Motability is the UK’s leading car scheme for disabled people. It provides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to disabled people and their families.
