Congratulations to whoever set up the charity 'Womens Warm Welcome Worldwide'.
However, there are many lonely, bereaved, divorced single men and women, who would welcome a similar organisation to meet and holiday together at home and to travel abroad in a group to escape the British Winter.
The Gambia April 1980, were you there?
Remember Kunta Kinte on TV 1979? It was this that promoted one of the 1st charter trips to the Gambia March/April 1980, the only news we heard from home was the Bristol Riots!
Why am I trying to find a couple who names and contact I have lost? They took cine film of me doing a tribal dance in a dusty village in the Gambia, after teaching the natives hands knees and bumps a daisy with a few other nutty Brits we did the Conga?
I did ring the couple not long after return from the holiday, but as you may remember you could not get cine film copied that easy 30 years ago! Then an accident in a failed fire rescue November 16th 1981, spending 9 months in Stoke Mandeville Hospital (we did have Jimmy Saville popping in and out) then another 18 months before I had settled in my own accommodation so lost contact with:- this now mystery couple? National Service Conscripts -were you the last one?
2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of the end of National Service and the National Service (RAF) Association are looking to commemorate this important date. As well as holding a huge re-union and Parade at the RAF Museum at Cosford on July 4th, the association is also seeking the last conscripted National Servicemen from all 3 Services in the hope that the British Legion will allow them to march at the head of a column in the November Remembrance Parade at the London Cenotaph – rather as last three surviving WWI veterans, Bill Stone, Harry Patch, and Henry Allingham did in 2008.
