Titanic: The Exhibition

Everyone’s seen the movie, but how many of us have seen the actual salvage from the wreck? We’re talking Titanic, of course, and the meticulously preserved salvage is our only link now with that state-of-the-art, luxury cruise ship. The ‘unsinkable’ ship from Belfast struck an ice berg at 11:40PM, four days into her maiden voyage and sank three hours later on 15 April 1912.  The nearest ship to respond to the SOS, the Carpathia, was four hours away.

The Isle of Wight - Making the most of the bank holidays

With the Royal wedding and a bank holiday announced for the 29th April, many families will be able to combine their Easter and May Bank Holiday entitlement and enjoy nearly a fortnight's holiday on the Isle of Wight by taking just three days leave.

Here's how it works:

Good Friday weekend - 22 April
Easter Monday - 25 April
Royal Wedding weekend - 29 April
May Bank Holiday - 2 May

So with all these Bank Holidays and two weekends in between, all you need to take is three days leave - 26, 27 and 28 April - to achieve an 11-day holiday.

Or opt for a long-weekend and cruise across for a few days of R&R - the mild weather is the perfect excuse to get out and about and explore the Island's footpaths, cycleways and beaches.   The National Trust offers a range of guided walks led by experts as well as other activities for the whole family (Link below).

Come and join us at Bourne U3A

On 18th April 2011 the normal Corn Exchange Meeting will take on a special significance in that it will mark the 10th anniversary of the formation of Bourne U3A.  It was on 27th March 2001 that Margaret Shepherd opened a meeting in the Baxter Room at Wake House to welcome those interested in the new organisation, a satellite of Stamford U3A.

Such was the interest that many people had to be turned away and a new venue found for subsequent meetings.  The association, just like Topsy “Jest grewd an’ grewd” – the membership now exceeds 360.  For the event, special guest Gabriella will return, Our Mayor and her consort will join us, there will be a special cake to be shared and it is hoped that all previous Chairpersons will be in attendance.
